Is there a book you really loved that was subsequently turned into a movie? Did it live up to your expectations? Why or why not?
Ok, I have to answer this one... When I was in high school, I read a book called "The City of Ember". I loved that book. I loved the idea of an underground city that's dying and the people need to escape. I loved the book so much that I even wrote a college level research paper analyzing it. Years passed and one day, I learned that they were making a movie. Naturally, I was excited. I went to see the movie with my boyfriend one day....
Well, the movie was particularly well produced in my opinion. It was pretty accurate to the book until the characters were attacked by a giant star nosed mole. The movie seemed very choppy and inconsistent... While the events were accurate, the characters were nothing like what I remembered and very shallow. The whole story seemed very diluted and it made me sad.
While I may not have liked the movie as much as the book, others hated it FAR worse than I did...and I can't really blame them. It would be especially bad if you hadn't read the book and I'm...what...one out of ten that did? To give you an idea of how poorly received the movie was, it was packaged at Wal-Mart with Dragonball the live action movie and the toys were in kids meals at WENDYS!!!
